What is Binge – Eating Disorder

Binge – Eating Disorder

Binge-eating disorder is a significant eating disorder in which you customarily consume surprisingly large amounts of food and feel unable to stop eating.

People with binge eating disorder regularly and unmanangeably consume large amounts of food in brief periods of time. Unlike people with other eating disorders, they do not force regurgitation.

Almost everyone overeats occassionally, such as having seconds or thirds of a special birthday dinner or Thanksgiving meal. But for some, excessive overeating that feels out of control and becomes a frequent occurrence crosses the line to binge-eating disorder.

When you have binge-eating disorder, you may self-conscious about overeating and vow to refrain but you feel such a compulsion that you can’t resist the urges and continue binge eating. If you have binge-eating disorder, we can definitely help.

DID YOU KNOW?

Binge-Eating Disorder is not Uncommon

Binge Eating Disorder is more common than you might think. Nearly 2% of all adults throughout the US (close to 4 million men and women) suffer from binge eating disorder.

Individuals Eating With Binge-Eating Disorder Often Display Avoidant Behaviors

Most binge eaters will avoid eating in front of others. This is out of fear that their peers are constantly judging their food intake (which is, of course, merely a projection).

Those with Binge - Eating Disorder Often Have Irregular Eating Patterns

Most binge eaters will restrict their diets during the day. This can include only eating during binge eating episodes. And, refraining from eating all other times.

Binge-Eating Disorder is More Than a Lack of Self-Control

Recovery from binge eating disorder entails acquiring a deeper understanding of how food can be an unhealthy coping mechanism. And, the regaining of emotional health and stability. This way, individuals can both establish new methods to dealing with unhealthy thought patterns and healthy lifestyles.
